- My fear...the consequence of complacency will be catastrophe. Cheney said, "Reagan proved that budget deficits don't matter." What an idiot! I'm afraid that all politicians are clinging desperately to that concept with all the hope of their political futures. However, the thing they miss is that the overall debt loads way back then were so much smaller than they are now. These are different times requiring a different approach.
